Pyramid Conspiracies

3. Why do you think so many conspiracy theories surround the pyramids and the megaliths? Give examples of a few and explain where you think they come from.

I think that there are so many conspiracy theories surrounding pyramids and megaliths because they are misunderstood. People, by human nature, question things that they do not understand. Because history was not recorded very much at that time, we do not know everything about why and how these structures were constructed. They are such magnificent structures that people wonder how people could have created them so long ago. Some people believe that archeologists stage the whole thing, and created the pictures that are inside the pyramids. Another theory is that humans have been altered by a visiting race, which is why we experienced such quick development around two million tears ago. The pyramids could have served as landing bases. A very imaginative person probably came up with this one. Many people have not even considered the fact that other, more advanced races exist, so this person either genuinely believes this is true or desperately searched for a theory. Humans can come up with all the theories they want, and any one of them may be correct, no matter how abstract. The truth is, we never will completely know what was going on before history was recorded.

Greece Notes- Megaliths

  • Megaliths are big stone monuments to people who died in Greece.
  • Megaliths came all over Europe in around 3000 BC, where people started burying their dead.
  • Menhirs are large upright standing stones.
  • Stonegehenge is in Southern England and is made up of large megaliths. The upright pieces are plinths and the horizontal pieces are lintels.
  • we don't know what purpose this monument was meant to serve, it may be some kind of ritual site.
  • It was created in the prehistoric era, the era before the writing of history.
  • For history from this time, we just have to go on what is left, because nothing was recorded.

Egypt Notes

  • Speak Egyptian-Arabic, Coptic, and Egyptian.
  • Cairo is the capital.
  • Out to the west of Alexandria is desert.
  • Luxor is the site of an old dynastic temple.
  • There is not much life out in the Sahara desert.
  • The Pharaoh, because he was the God on Earth, was supposed to make the Nile river flood each year, so that it would fertilize the crops.
  • The ancient name for their own country was Kemet.
  • Mastaba: a stepped pyramid. It looks like a pyramid shape layer cake. They are the early pyramids.
  • Sphinx is in front of the Great pyramids, maybe as a protector for the pharaoh.
  • Note to self: Check out class resources for help.
  • There are three "kingdoms" in Egypt- Old, middle, new
  • The middle kingdom has a remarkable continuity with the older period.
  • The new kingdom includes Akhenaten. He introduces monotheism. He believes in the sun God, Ahtan??(I don't know how to spell it...). (Ah-tan)
  • The Egyptians were polytheists.
  • People thought he was crazy to be monotheistic.
  • King Tutankhamen was the most famous Pharaoh, although he did not do much.
  • During Tut's reign, Egypt was at war.
  • The Persians eventually invade Egypt, and they conquer the dynasties.
  • Persians are eventually pushed out.
  • Greeks start to colonize on the edge of Egypt.
  • When Alexander the great comes to Egypt, he hates Persians, and the Egyptians love him.

What is war.......

War is a form of technology. Agree or disagree?

I disagree. War is just fighting. Fighting in itself cannot improve, as technology does, but I believe technology is a major part of war. The technology of guns and weapons may very well improve, and this is a major part of war. Technologies of supplies and camouflage also improve. Technology majorly helps people out when in war, but war itself is not a technology. War is more of an abstract term, a state of being. "At war" is not saying that war is a noun, simply something that is going on. Therefore, war is not a technology.

Egypt Notes- Pyramids

  • Egypt used to be divided into upper Egypt and Lower Egypt
  • The Nile river is in Egypt. It is the longest river in the world.
  • There is a piece of art called a palette. It was used in ancient Egypt.
  • Narmer was a leader of Egypt. He united lower and upper Egypt into one by force. You can tell it is by force because there is a Palette of him looking angry and killing people........
  • Giza has three pyramids. They are pyramids of three Pharaohs.
  • Pharaohs are always presented wearing a headdress and an ornament on their chin. Also no top and a skirt.
  • Egyptian sculptures are made of very hard stone.
  • In Egyptian sculpture, you NEVER find space between the legs. If there is space, it is a forgery.
  • Hieroglyphs are not pictures that stand for something. each character represents a sound in the language, like our letters represent a sound.
  • Hieroglyphs are all over the place in Egypt:)
  • The inside of a pyramid is only made to bury a Pharaoh and his royal family.
  • Herodotus is the father of history.
  • he visited Egypt while the pyramids were being constructed.
  • Pyramids were believed to be made primarily by slave labor.
  • Then nice quarters were found that could not have been a slaves home, more the home of professional workers. Slaves may have helped though.
  • There was an enormous slave population in Egypt.
  • Egypt would not have been able to prosper without slaves.
  • Once burials in pyramids were done, they were closed off and no one was ever allowed into them again.
  • When you died in Egypt, your Ka was released, and your ka would hang out in the pyramid. They had to put writings and things in the pyramid that the person enjoyed, so the ka wouldn't get bored.
  • All organs are removed before mummification.

This video shows how mummies are made.... hehe

What human creation was the most important to me? Well, lets see........

The oldest human creation that has mattered to me was the invention of writing. It first started out with cuneiform, which was the first form of written language. Language has evolved a great deal since then, into the many forms of written language that we have today. If writing had never, developed, I have no idea where I would be now. Actually, I do know that I would not be sitting here writing this right now. We also could never send private messages ; they might need to be relayed verbally through messengers. Also, Learning would be very difficult. Students would just be lectured, and could not even take notes. Also, we would not have the many wonderful books we have today, including history books. We could not learn about old useful inventions or battle tactics. To today's youth, writing is very important. Many people enjoy texting, which does include the use of a written language. Writing is overall very important to everyone in the world and our entire world would not be nearly as ceveloped as we are today without it.
